About the Three Day Tour

The Northern Suburbs Three Day Tour has become an essential part of the Queen’s Birthday Weekend for many cyclists. It’s also a race that is used by many juniors and new road racers as their first adventure into stage racing. Cadel Evans competed in the Three Day Tour in is early days of road racing, and we don’t need to go into detail about how well things went for him!

Many past winners and participants have gone on to represent Australia in Olympic and Commonwealth Games and in Europe’s Grand Tours.

New for 2015 - Heritage Stage

New for the Three Day Tour this year is the introduction of the Heritage Stage.  This stage honours Australia’s cycling identities from the past.

It’s a huge year for Australian cycling with the 100th edition of the epic Melbourne to Warrnambool road race. This year the 3 Day Tour honours Iddo ‘Snowy’ Munro, that helped make the Warrny the race it is today.

Munro claimed fastest time honours in the 1909 Warnnambool classic, embarrassing the Railway Commission by beating their train over the distance. Quiet a feet given the terrible nature of the roads and heavy single-speed bikes used at the time!

Snowy was also the first English speaking rider to contest the Tour de France along with Don Kirkham in 1914, paving the way for future generations of Australian riders.

You can find out more about Snowy Munro here

The Three Day Tour is a must to so make sure you compete, support and get involved!
